KOTA SAMARAHAN (March 21): Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has called on Sarawakian muslims to actively contribute to waqf (Islamic endowment), emphasising its enduring benefits for future generations. Following the announcement of the Mara Madani Waqf initiative he also encouraged Sarawakians to stay informed about national-level developments. He underscored waqf as an essential Islamic practice beyond zakat, highlighting its role in sustaining education, welfare, and religious institutions. “Waqf is a lifelong practice because its benefits continue even after we pass on. If we have land, assets, or even a small portion of income, we should dedicate it to waqf. “Even RM1 can make a difference,” he said when speaking at the Majlis Santunan Kasih Ramadan 2025 hosted by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development at Masjid Darul Sabirin Kampung Empila, here today. Recently, it was announced that the Mara Madani Waqf initiative, launched to strengthen the socio-economic position of the Malay and Bumiputera communities, has recorded collections reaching RM51.6 million within the first three months of this year. Beyond its religious significance, Fadillah highlighted waqf's role in fostering national development and unity. He stressed that strong community bonds are crucial for advancing rural development initiatives, including access to clean water, electricity, housing, and infrastructure. The event also saw the presentation of contributions and assistance from KKDW Sarawak to six agencies Sarawak: the People's Trust Council (Mara), Yayasan Pelajaran Mara (YPM), Rural Capital Berhad (RCB), the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda), the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Felcra) Berhad, and Giatmara. A total of RM27,710,693.90 was disbursed to 159 recipients represented by the six agencies. Also present were KKDW deputy minister Datuk Rubiah Wang and other distinguished guests.. |
