Jini us Pandakin LONG PASIA: A total of 58 vehicles were stuck for almost an hour on Wednesday morning along the road between Kampung Ulu Bole and Kampung Mcligan, after a severely damaged section of the road became impassable due to a stranded vehicle.

According to local resident Rassian Ahundung, 62, the vehicles were unable to proceed from 8:26am until 9:45 am. The blockage was caused by a car that got stuck in the muddy road, preventing other vehicles from traveling towards Sipitang town or Long Pasia.

“The vehicle was successfully removed at 9:45am, and we were able to continue our journey,” Rassian said. He also pointed out that the road conditions have worsened due to the frequent passage of heavy timber trucks during the rainy season.

Rassian further criticized the poorly maintained drainage system, which he claimed has allowed water to spill onto the road, making it slippery and muddy.

He highlighted that these road conditions were brought to the attention of Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob during the Jelajah Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat program. This program recently covered several villages, including Long Pasia, Long Mio, Pa Kemadang, Iburu, Meligan, Ulu Bole, Lumampau, Bamban, and Mendulong.

In another related incident, Kampung Meligan''s village chief, Surang Langut, was stranded for over 12 hours at Bukit Payau on Saturday night while returning from Sipitang town. Surang, whose vehicle got stuck at 8:40pm, was only able to receive assistance at 9:00 am the following day. The incident occurred after heavy rain and slippery conditions caused him to lose control of his four-wheel-drive vehicle, which became trapped in deep mud.

Surang urged the Public Works Department (JKR) to monitor and maintain the road regularly to ensure the safety and smooth travel of all road users.

Both incidents highlight the urgent need for improvements to the road infrastructure in the area to prevent further disruptions and ensure safe passage, especially during the rainy season..
