MIRI (March 17): The Sarawak government is steadfast in its commitment to enhance infrastructure to support economic growth and business development, said Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. The state Transport Minister said the government recognises the crucial role of transportation and public facilities, and is committed in strengthening Miri's position as the key economic hub in northern Sarawak with the implementation of various infrastructure projects. “The ongoing projects include airport upgrades, river dredging, and the development of smart traffic system, all aimed at ensuring the city plays a greater role in regional economic progress,” he said in his speech at the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) annual general meeting yesterday. The Senadin assemblyman cited the Kuala Baram Port dredging and upgrading project as a long-anticipated initiative set to enhance port operations, to benefit industries such as shipbuilding and related sectors while expanding economic opportunities for the region. “As Sarawak moves towards Industrial Revolution 4.0 and sustainable development, the government encourages businesses to embrace technological transformation and green innovation. “With continuous collaboration between the government and business community, these infrastructure improvements will strengthen the state's economy and drive future growth,” he added. Speaking of business growth in Miri, Lee praised MCCCI for its commitment and efforts in providing support and services to its members. “In recent years, despite the challenges posed by the global economic prosperity, the chamber has upheld the spirit of unity and collaboration, helping businesses overcome difficulties and explore new opportunities. “This resilience and determination are a source of pride for Sarawak's business community. “Additionally, they also actively promote infrastructure development, commercial vitality and social progress; MCCCI has responsibly implemented their role as the bridge between the government and the business sector.” Lee pledged that the government would continue to listen to public opinion, formulate business-friendly policies, and work closely towards a brighter future for Miri.. |
